70 to snow

Texas weather is ridiculous. If you live in Texas, this is old news.  But to those of you that don't, I actually think the DSMIV has officially diagnosed our weather patterns with bipolar disorder.

Last Sunday was glorious, sunny and well into the 70s.  The kind of weather that brings out the best in the city of Austin and makes me wish i never had to leave.  Anyway, what did i wake up to Tuesday morning? Snow all over my car and sleet on the roads...coincidentally, i never made it to class that morning either (go figure).

Now, i've spent time in areas where the accumulation is measured in feet, not in centimeters, but it's always neat to see it snow here in Austin since it's such a rare occurrence.

Here's a picture i found online taken by a local photographer.  I thought it was cool because it was taken in the same place and of the same tree as my "header photo" above

Here's me after running to my car from the grocery store...i was literally outside for only like 15 seconds, and no that's not dandruff....forgive my awkward face.

I feel sorry though for whoever was driving these things though...bummer.

Don't worry Austin, we'll all be back wearing shorts before you know it!

Wait Wait...don't tell me!

I'm about to run the risk of sounding possibly like a huge nerd, but i really like listening to NPR.  Yes, it's true.  It actually started a long time ago, although very faint, when my family would take long road trips and my dad would listen to "Car Talk."   I knew nothing about cars then, and the most i know how to do to my car now is maaaaaybe change a tire.  But the show's hosts, Tom and Ray Magliozzi (also known as Click and Clack) are hilarious and have the BEST Boston accents EVER, which is the only reason i love it, and is a totally justifiable reason in my mind.

Once i moved to Austin, i liked listening to the stories and interviews that they play during rush hour as i would drive home from work or something.  Also, during the day they play a lot of local music too, which i dig.

Lastly, and what turned my like of NPR into a love-fest, is the program "Wait Wait...don't tell me!"  Now, i have to give credit to my sister, Laura, because she is the one who shared this treasure with me.  The best way to describe it:  a weekly news quiz played by comedians with random listeners and "celebrities" who call in to play the games.  The list of guests range from A-list actors to famous scientists to politicians.  The prize?  CARL KASSEL'S VOICE ON YOUR ANSWERING MACHINE.  This is huge, i promise.  And i just have to say, i'm kind of amazing at the Listener's Limerick game, so i plan on winning someday.  Even if i'm by myself, i laugh out loud every time i listen.  You should go listen to it right now (you can download the podcasts on itunes).  Do it, and thank me later.  I insist on being demanding.

"Call me Ishmael"

(wait...I've got the wrong story)

I never thought that I was the type of person to start a blog...ever.  I never thought that i  had anything particularly interesting to say...that's why i've stayed away from Twitter for so long (seriously, no one cares if someone 'tweeted' that they ate a bologna sandwich for lunch or whatever).

But here i am: knowing that at some point i'll probably resort to telling you what i had to eat that day, knowing you probably still don't care, and being brave enough to share it anyway.

So why am i doing this?  Honestly, it's just one of several things i've felt very compelled to do right now in my life, as weird as it sounds.

Anyway, this is a place i can write down what's going on in my life and in my head...and maybe what i want to cook for dinner tonight too.

I hope that the people that find this get some enjoyment out of it...whether it's encouragement, inspiration, or if you're just simply having a chuckle at my expense.  It's all good.
