1 year photos

The lovely Holly Birdsong, who took Cyrus' newborn and 6 month photos, did a 1 year shoot with us around town recently. She once again did such a great job and i'm forever glad we have these memories. Sharing some of my favorites....

First Fiesta

For Cyrus' birthday party we did a "fiesta" theme. Let's be honest, it's really a party for the adults at this age, and David and I certainly love Mexican food. We had a large group so I tried to keep it easy and stress-free. We had a nacho bar with lots of toppings, sangria & pina coladas, and a few simple decorations. My absolute favorite were the mini-sombreros...surprisingly Cyrus wore his all evening...as did many of the adult guests :)
The moment we discovered he loved nachos.
Blowing out his candle.
That cupcake never stood a chance.
FaceTiming Aunt Laura.
We were lucky to have so many people come and celebrate Cyrus and enjoy the day with us.

Cyrus is one!

The day of Cyrus' actual birthday was perfectly simple. It happened to fall on David's day off in the middle of the week and we spent a relaxing day together as a family. The day started by FaceTiming my sister oversees so she could see Cyrus open one of his gifts. We went and got pancakes in our PJs (Cyrus, not us) for breakfast. We opened lots of cards from family members. Later that night we had bible study and brought a big chocolate cake to share with everyone.

I wrote Cyrus a letter for his birthday...something David and I want to do every year for our kids. I debated posting it but it's pretty sappy, as most parent-child letters probably are. But here are some things about Cyrus right now at 12 months that I want to remember:

  • You are still attached to your blue crochet baby blanket. You pull it up over your head, and stick your fingers through it and play with it when you are resting. It’s adorable.
  • You are a WILD sleeper. I can check the baby monitor every 30 minutes and you are in a different position every time.
  • You love to drink the bath water, to the point where you will voluntarily try and stick your face in it, which is terrifying.
  • You love Dexter, and i’m pretty sure your first intentional word was “dog.” You also love to eat his food. He tolerates you in return.
  • You get so excited when Dad comes home from work.
  • You can clap, blow, kiss, wave and say “hi,” and sign "more," but you rarely do them on command unless you are in your car seat. I don’t know what it is about the car, maybe because you are stuck and can’t be distracted by anything else.
  • You rarely sit still. Ever, ever.
  • You have a pretty big belly and waddle when you walk.
  • You could eat fruit all day, every day, and be perfectly happy.
  • Your face lights up when you hear FaceTime ringing.
  • You sometimes whisper to yourself.
  • You are an empathetic laugher. If your dad and I start to giggle you often laugh yourself into hysterics. It’s my favorite sound.
Cyrus, you are a completely wild, non-stop, expressive, tender-hearted, incredibly strong little guy and we couldn't love you any more!

Oops, I did it again

I'll save the apologies for not updating since Cyrus was 3 months old, yikes...here's the catch up:
Surprise! #2 on the way!
